9 injured as buses collide in Nsukka

Nine passengers sustained various degrees of  injuries on Friday when two buses belonging to the Peace Mass Transit (PMT) company  collided on the Nsukka-Enugu road.

The accident happened in front of Queens Secondary School, Nsukka, around 3 p.m.

One of the passengers, who identified himself as Kennedy Eze, thanked God that nobody died in the collision.

Eze said the bus heading to Enugu was trying to avoid a speed bump and ran into the one coming from the opposite direction.

He said FRSC officers and passersby helped to evacuate the injured to the hospital.

One of the rescuers who pleaded anonymity said  that the injured were taken to Bishop Shanahan Hospital, Nsukka, for treatment.

The front windscreens of both buses were shattered.

At the Bishop Shanahan Hospital, the injured passengers were being attended by doctors and nurses who declined to comment.
