Bayelsa- Suspected pirates kill two

Suspected pirates reportedly shot dead two persons in the early hours of yesterday in the riverside town of Kuroamagbene in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
It was learnt that the deceased were relatives of the Special Adviser to the Bayelsa Governor on Higher Education, Dr. Godswill Ziriki.
One of the victims was recently appointed as a caretaker committee member of the Southern Ijaw Local Government Development Centre.
The incident occurred at about 1 a.m. Tuesday   at the community waterfront, sources told us that the victims met their untimely death when they, alongside other youths, tried to scare away some intruders suspected to be pirates from stealing a speed boat at the community waterfront.
It was learnt that the deceased and other community youths were at a wake-keep some distance from the waterfront when they noticed an unusual movement there.
They were said to have raised alarm and were hauling stones at the intruders, an action which allegedly angered the gunmen who opened fire on them, killing two youths.
The gunmen reportedly fled the scene without accomplishing their mission.
Attempt to get the comment of the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Alex Akhigbe, on the matter proved abortive as he was not picking his calls but a relation of the deceased who pleaded annonymity confirmed the incident.
