Senator
David Mark has condemned the gruesome murder of 28 students and a teacher at
the Government Secondary School, Mamudo, near Potiskum in Yobe State at the
weekend by Boko Haram gunmen.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press
Secretary, Paul Mumeh, said: "Even in war situations, children and women
are protected. Killing children is akin to cutting down the future of a people.
This is inhuman, barbaric and unacceptable to any right thinking member of the
society.
" For no reason, the lives of these promising
children were needlessly cut down by the heartless people. This cannot be a way
of life. Enough of this bloodshed."
Quoting from the Holy Bible to drive home his
point that children deserves the protection and care no matter the
circumstances, Senator Mark said Mathew 18 : 10 states: “Take heed that ye
despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you that in heaven their
angels do always behold the face of my father which is in heaven while Mark
9:42 added And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in
me , it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck and he
were cast into the sea."
He frowned that the perpetrators have committed
crime against God and humanity, saying “this is barbaric, wicked and
condemnable."
He therefore urged the security operatives to step
up their surveillance and monitoring activities to halt the trend and bring
perpetrators to justice.
Mark assured that the National Assembly would
continue to give priority attention to appropriation to the security operatives
to carry out their duties without hitches.
He sympathised with government and people of Yobe
State, especially the bereaved families over the unfortunate incident just as
he pleaded with the perpetrators of the heinous crimes to give peace a chance.
The Senator President said the government has
opened enough windows for dialogue and peace which any aggrieved persons and
groups could take advantage of and end terrorism in the land.
