The Management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced plans to install a necessary platform that would enable all NYSC locations to be inter-linked.
In achieving this, the Director General of the scheme, Brigadier General N.T Okore-Affia, said the management would explore the possibility of public private partnership in view of the limited financial resources available to the organisation.
General Okore-Affia stated this while commissioning the NYSC Imo State / WOLEX ICT Resource Centre in Owerri.
The unique project, he said, came at a time when the management had decided to deploy Information Technology (IT) into the operations of the NYSC.
“Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is an essential and effective management tool in every organization and in realization of this , the present administration is frantically making efforts to provide the necessary infrastructure that will enable staff to perform their duties with maximum efficiency and little stress”.
While commending the WOLEX Vintage Technologies for all the kind gestures it had extended to the NYSC, Imo State, the director general urged the ICT unit of the state to ensure careful and judicious use of the equipment and facilities in the centre to ensure durability.
Represented by the Director, ICT Dept. at the NYSC Directorate headquarters Abuja, Mr. Anthony Chinwuba Ani, the NYSC boss promised that his directorate headquarters would assist in providing other facilities as soon as its financial status improved.
The state coordinator of NYSC, Mrs. Chinwe Ojukwu, described the event as the climax of the joint effort of the NYSC Imo State and Wolex Vintage Technologies Limited.
This, she said, was borne out of the need to establish an efficient ICT unit that could service the various administration branches in the secretariat in compliance with the management’s directive on the implementation of the new structure of the scheme.
Ojukwu showered praises on the Wolex Vintage Technologies for its support to the NYSC and called for partnerships between the NYSC and other stakeholders, just as he solicited for office furniture more computers , air conditioners, fans and other necessary equipment to enable it expand and ensure that all operations are ICT-driven.
