The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) yesterday said at Nnewi, Anambra State, that it would 'raze' the country if its leader, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike is made to face treason trial as recommended by a Supreme Court five-man panel of judges.
Addressing newsmen, the personal assistant to Uwazuruike, Emmanuel Omenka, said that for peace to reign, the Federal Government should not arraign the group's leader in court, threatening that what is being experienced now in the hands of the Boko Haram religious sect “is just a tip of the iceberg of what MASSOB would subject Nigerians to.”
According to him, “Boko Haram has continued to use arms to fight for a cause without the Federal Government bringing it to face the wrath of the law, but rather, the Federal Government goes after MASSOB, a non-violent body fighting for the actualisation of Biafra Republic.”
Omenka also accused the Federal Government of not fulfilling its promise on construction of the Second Niger Bridge to help curtail the problems being experienced on the present bridge.
According to him, the marginalisation of the Igbo race informed the emergence of MASSOB. He expressed optimism that when the 'Biafra Republic' is actualised, the Igbo would breathe an air of freedom.
