Group to empower Igbo Boko Haram victims in Imo-MOSIP

The Movement for the Survival of Igbo People (MOSIP) has announced plans to empower relatives and widows of Igbo people killed in  Northern parts of the country by the Boko Haram insurgents.
The group in collaboration with the government of Imo State is to organize the “Igbo Day of Tribute’’ in memory of the hundreds of innocent Igbo businessmen who lost their lives in various crises across the country.
The National Chairman of the MOSIP, Chief Maxwell Nwokeji, who briefed journalists in Owerri, noted that the intervention of the body became imperative to cushion the suffering of Igbo women and children who have lost their bread winners in very sad circumstances.
“As a first step towards our vision to reposition ‘ala-Igbo’ we have concluded plans in partnership with the Imo State government to organize Igbo Day of Tribute. This is in memory of all Igbo sons and daughters unjustly but brutally killed in various crises and violent acts across Nigeria and abroad. The event will serve as an opportunity to mourn our brothers and sisters and to send a strong message that enough is enough”, he said.
He pointed out that the continued killing of Ndigbo especially in Kano and other troubled states in the North is unfair and condemnable, stressing that the government has failed to address the challenges brought on the dependants of the victims.
Nwokeji however pointed out that the group will not back the call for the Igbo to evacuate the North as a result of the escalating crises, insisted that every Nigerian has the right to live in any part of the country and enjoy security of live and property, irrespective of his religious or ethnic background.
According to him, “the Igbo Day of Tribute was conceived to ameliorate the sufferings of Ndigbo who lost their means of livelihood to the Boko Haram crises. There will be a night of vigil and prayer which will precede the day of the event and on the day proper widows and children of the victims will be empowered to give them a new beginning”.
