Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri
Tambuwal, Speaker House of Representatives has called on President Goodluck
Jonathan and other leaders to be transparent while discharging their duties.
He urged the leaders to build institutions that would enhance the
provision of good governance to the people.
Tambuwal spoke yesterday through his Special Adviser on Media
Affairs, Mallam Imam Imam, at the Democracy Day celebration in Abuja.
Urging Nigerians to protect the country’s democracy by
participating actively in governance at local, state and federal levels, he
said: “One of the cardinal principles of democracy is openness and
transparency. Therefore, those in authority must be open and transparent in the
conduct of their activities at all times.”
On his part, Tambuwal’s deputy, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha,
congratulated Nigerians on their patience and resilience in preserving the
country’s unity and integrity.
Ihedioha said: “Citizens have continually been tasked to make
sacrifices for the country and for being so responsive and understanding; they
deserve commendation and encouragement from leaders and those in authority.”
He, however, urged the leaders to double up efforts in providing
good governance to the people.
