The opposition political parties in Ebonyi State says, the endorsement of president Goodluck Jonathan for 2015 presidential election by governors in South-East is against the political interests of the Ndigbo.
The state chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Comrade Jerry Obasi and his Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) counterpart, Mr. Samuel Igwe, in an interview with Journalist stated that, the agitation for a president from the Igbo race would not be scarificed for selfish interest, the Governor could not speak for the zone on such matters without due consultation of stakeholders in the area.
He explained that even as President Jonathan could be commended for laying foundation for the international wing of the Akanu Ibiam Airport, his failure to see to the actualization of the second Niger Bridge puts to question his commitment to the welfare of the southeast who voted for him enmass in 2011 so could not be made to feel assured of their sacrificing their chance for the presidency come 2015.
The APGA Chairman, Obasi explained that the governors could merely be expressing their personal opinion.
“The Governor could be doing whatever they want for themselves, more so the performance of these Governors have not earned them the respect and followership of the Igbo electorate so could not command our opinion,” he stated.
He alleged that the Governors might have been promised senatorial slots at the expiry of their tenure as Governor so might be tempted to sacrificing the general interest of the Igbos.
