Human Rights group commends FG, calls for the support of Emergency rule

A human rights organisation, Youth and Conflict Resolution Initiatives, YCRI, has commended Federal Government  for his courage to declare state of emergency in the troubled states of the country and called on all stakeholders to support the move.

The group in a statement signed by its Director of International Relations, Mr Efemena Agadama said: “We commend the federal government for declaring state of emergency in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states. No responsible government anywhere in the world will allow its citizens and security operatives to be continuously slaughtered by terrorists who seem to be getting stronger and deadlier in the furtherance of their insurgency.
“We are glad no arm of the federal government has allowed itself to be used to gain sympathy for the insurgents. We call on the various tribal groups, northern elders, political parties and interest bodies to support the JTF on this constitutional duty. It will be a gross miscalculation and betrayal of the faith of Nigerians for anyone or group to challenge the state of emergency declared to stop the insurgency and save us from more massacre.
“Therefore, this is the wrong time for the ruling or opposition parties to play politics with the state of emergency when the lives of thousands of Nigerians have been wasted. We say no to any form of unfair criticism or unnecessary pressure by any group of persons for the federal government to lift the state of emergency when its objectives have not been accomplished.
“The federal government should allow time for normalcy before contemplating its lifting. The security and the survival of the nation should be the utmost priority of any government and not the politics of elections”, the statement maintained.
