Imo govt will be closer to the people with CGC

The government of Imo State under Governor Rochas Okorocha recently introduced Community Government Council (CGC), which, according to observers will push development down the ladder where the grassroots can be reached effectively and be impacted on. In this interview, a community leaders and social critic, Chief Ogemdi Ezeala speaks on the new development in the Heartland State, expressing the hope that the aim with which the CGC was introduced will be achieved.

He also spoke on the state of things in Imo State and National issues. Governor Okorocha finally appended its signature for the introduction of a fourth tier of government called Community Government Council (CGC) how do you see it? CGC is a wonderful development, which I’m sure, will enhance all around developments in Imo State. The people are happy and they have massively giving kudos to Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha because for the first time people at the utmost rural areas are given life time opportunity to be closer to the government like never before.

It is really interesting and the people are going to take better advantage of the development not just to continue to appreciate the good governance drive of Okorocha’s administration but also support him to take our dear state to the next level. Is selecting people into the leadership of the CGC generating controversy among stakeholders in some of the communities.
Offordim autonomous community in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area there problem caused by some people who wish to select their loyalists into the leadership against the overall wish of the people.

As obtained in other communities the traditional ruler and his council members have the mandate to select people into the four-man leadership of CGC but in my community, the reverse is the case. Those who think they are greater that the wish of the people are trying to change the four-man list forwarded to the State House of Assembly by our traditional ruler, Eze Chibuzo Uzoeshi but we have reported the case to the state House of Assembly. They are trying to cause confusion.
