She disclosed this in a chat with newsmen when she visited the State in preparation for the Freedom Day celebration, which would commemorate with the governor's two years in office.
Asugha added that the government realized the imperative of galvanizing the people in the pursuit of their developmental agenda, emphasizing that the governor took a number of steps to restore the people's confidence in government.
While pointing out, she said the governor had to cut down the State Security Vote by N4billion to provide additional funds for the State's Free Education Programme. Also, she said governor Okorocha settled the backlog of pensions which remained unpaid for between two (2) to twelve (12) years in a move that also restored the confidence of the retired workers, who had served the State in various capacities.
“Vividly, I could remember that the governor directed that all issues relating to outstanding pension claims be addressed. This was in addition to clearing the arrears of salaries owed our civil servants when this administration assumed office. He also directed that a payment plan be put in place to begin the process of settling over N8billion of outstanding gratuities. Even as he also resolved the issue of minimum wage expeditiously by agreeing to pay N20,000 as minimum wage as against N18,000 that was recommended," she said.
Furthermore, the former Special Assistant to the Imo State governor on Public Affairs described governor Okorocha as a performing leader whose passion is to transform Imo for better. She, however, called on the people to support the Rescue Mission administration of the governor for total industrialization of the State.
