NGF Crisis: 2015 Elections May Not Be Free And Fair – Oshiomhole

The Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has raised fears about the up-coming 2015 general elections and said that they may not be free and fair if the recent crisis in the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) persists.
Oshiomhole expressed this fear yesterday at the 9th Triennial National Delegates Conference of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), which preceded the Congress’ general election, held in Abuja.
This was just as the Minister of Labour, Chief Emeka Wogu, who represented President Goodluck Jonathan at the occasion said that Nigeria was undergoing a serious transformation currently.
He urged the organised labour and the entire citizens to have patience with the Federal Government as it continued with efforts to provide basic social amenities.
The former Labour leader averred that the controversy in the NGF following the accusation of rigging in the recent election was capable of marring the 2015 general election.
Oshiomhole called on the organised labour to intervene in the crisis and tell the NGF faction that lost the election to quit controversy and accept defeat in order to move the country forward.
He also pleaded with the Nigerian Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress to join forces in the 2015 election.
“As we approach 2015, I want the Trade Union Congress and the Nigerian Labour Congress to look at the forces and decide the one to identify with.
“I want the organised labour to know that the days are gone when we celebrate our non-partisan style”, Oshiomhole said.
The Governor lamented the continued increment on petroleum prices and urged the organised labour to look into the increasing theft of oil barrels which he claimed was affecting the national budget.
Speaking earlier, the outgoing President General of the Trade Union Congress, Comrade Peter Esele lamented the state of the nation both economically and politically. He said that the neglected agricultural sector still has the potential of regaining its lost glory if urgent steps were taken and jobs were created for at least 70 per cent of the population.
He condemned the importation of petroleum products which he said leads to loss of foreign exchange. “It does not make sense if we continue to create jobs in other countries while our youths constitute themselves into a nuisance here in our country out of frustration,” Esele added
