Enugu Police Command on red alert over MASSOB Sit At Home Orders

The Nigerian Police have been put on red alert in Enugu, following the proposed sit-at-home action announced by Movement for Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) today.

Also, the Enugu State Police command has warned that it would not allow anybody to disrupt peace in the state under any guise.

We observed unusual police presence in Enugu on Friday evening, with police patrol vans, carrying anti-riot policemen and other operational vehicles, positioned in strategic locations along major roads.

In a statement by Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ebere Amaraizu, the command said its attention had been drawn to a proposed plan by some sections of the people in the state to disturb public peace.

Amaraizu said the command, in view of this, wished to make it categorically clear that nobody or group of persons under any guise would be allowed to disturb the peace of the law abiding citizens of the state either at home, offices, or business places.

“The command has also empowered its security operatives to apprehend and prosecute any offender or group of offenders found disturbing the peace of the citizens of the state under any guise.

“In addition, members of the public are strongly advised by the command to contact the command’s security operatives about any attempt to disturb their peace as well as that of their business activities under any guise through 08032003702 or contact any of the police patrol vehicles or cars nearest to their location for appropriate action.

He added that the commissioner of Police, Enugu State command, Abubakar Adamu Mohammed, enjoined all the citizens of the state to be law-abiding and also to go about their normal lawful businesses.

Several other Igbo groups had earlier dissociated themselves from the sit-at-home action which they viewed as a ploy by MASSOB leader, Ralph Uwazuruike, to prove his relevance in Igboland to President Goodluck Jonathan, ahead of the 2015 general elections.
