Abia State Government
and its police command has warned the Movement for the Sovereign State of
Biafra, MASSOB, not to disrupt the order and peace in the state, following its
plans to enforce a sit-at-home order today.
The command insisted that the full weight of the
law would be brought on any person who disrupted the peace in the state.
The police command, through its Public Relations
Officer, Geoffrey Ogbonna, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, urged
residents of the state to disregard MASSOB’s order and go about their lawful
businesses.
Similarly, Abia State Government has called on
residents of the state to ignore the sit-at-home order given by the group.
The government, in a statement by the Chief
Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Ugochukwu Emezue, advised the people to go
about their lawful duties without fear, assuring them of their security.
It warned MASSOB members to keep off Abia State
to avoid bloodshed.
The government noted that the warning became
necessary as security agencies in the state had been placed on alert to
forestall any breakdown of law and order.
It equally called on parents to caution their
wards against being used by any group to cause trouble, insisting that the law
would take its full course against any offender.
The government warned that the prevailing peace
in the state would be sustained at all cost, stressing that it would not fold
its arms and watch enemies of progress destabilise the state.
